PALS Courses for NYGH Staff and Physicians

Paediatric Staff are not eligible for Professional Development Funds through "ed" 

PALS 2015 has been updated to PALS 2020 and will now be taught at all PALS courses.  All registrants are required to have, or have access to, the 2020 Pediatric Life Support Provider Manual and the 2020 Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care for Healthcare Providers.  Both books can be purchased at the time of registration.

Full Course Description

The PALS Provider Renewal course tests and strengthens your high-level skills and knowledge involving core PALS concepts in simulated cardiopulmonary arrest or cardiovascular emergencies to help you in your practice.  

In this concentrated course, your proficiency will be evaluated in high-quality CPR, high-performance team dynamics and communication, and the systematic approach to pediatric assessment that includes the evaluate-identify-intervene sequence for respiratory emergencies, shock and cardiopulmonary arrest. 

PALS Provider Courses

Full Course Description

Our PALS Provider Course will help you to develop individual skills – as a member of a healthcare team – in simulated real-life situations that mirror your work life in which you’ll need to recognize and respond to cardiopulmonary arrests or other cardiovascular emergencies involving pediatric patients. 
 

Courses are taught using the blended learning format in which you delve into parts of the curriculum on your own time and at your own pace and then take the instructor-led, in-classroom component. 

Funding  options through NYGH's "ed" Fund

You may be eligible for direct funding (you do not need to pay up-front) for the cost of registration for your course if you are in good standing with your respective professional regulatory body and meet ALL the eligibility criteria below. All Applicants must be registered through Conference Services for the PALS course prior to applying to the Education Development Fund.

 

If you do not meet all of the criteria below you can apply for reimbursement of your PALS fees. You must pay up-front and apply for non-direct funding consideration from the Education Development Fund (ed Fund). (Application does not guarantee reimbursment)

Direct Funding Eligibility Requirements
Employment status will be verified with Human Resources

1. NYGH Physician:   Active staff with at least one (1) year at NYGH

2. NYGH Staff:

            Full-time regular staff for at least 1 (one) year

            OR

            Part-time regular staff with at least 2 (two) years at NYGH

  Employed in one of the following departments

  • Paediatrics

  • Emergency

  • PACU

  • Respiratory Therapy

If you meet all of the criteria as described above:

  1. Register for the PALS course using the Direct Funding Registration Form (no payment required) Upon successfull registration you will receive an email with your registration confirmation attached.

  2. Apply for the direct funding through the Education Development Fund ("ed" Fund) at www.nygh.on.ca/ed  You will need to upload the PDF registration confirmation as part of your online funding appliation.

If you don't meet all of the criteria above you can apply for Reimbursement, see below.

                           

Application for Reimbursment

  1. Register and pay for the PALS course using the registration forms found on the Course Dates & Registration page. Upon successful registration you will receive an email with a PDF registration confirmation and receipt attached.
     

  2. Apply for funding consideration through the Education Development Fund ("ed" Fund) at www.nygh.on.ca/ed using a Professional Development Fund application. You will need to upload the PDF confirmation and the official receipt to your online funding application.
